Registration in real time
Deletion of a .co domain is performed 90 days after the domain's expiration date if, during this interval, the holder does not renew their right of use by paying the annual maintenance fee and, where applicable, the quarantine fee.
Following deletion, the domain becomes available for registration on a "first come, first served" basis.
The deletion of .co domain names is processed automatically based on the availability of the RoTLD Registry servers.
Trends and General Information
The .co domain is the official country-code top-level domain of Colombia on the Internet. The domain extension was introduced in 1991; initially the registered domains were managed by "Universidad de los Andes," but in the late 1990s a new corporation, ".CO Internet SAS," was founded to take over administration of .co domains.
Today, any interested Internet user worldwide can buy and register a personal .co domain. Only certain third-level domains require stricter requirements.
Statistics
In 2010, with around 360,000 registered domains, the .co domain was in the Top 3 in South America — and it is assumed to be a continuing-trend domain extension. The competent registry recorded a sharp rise in registrations especially in the European and North American regions.
