Deletion of a .name domain is performed 90 days after the domain's expiration date if, during this interval, the holder does not renew their right of use by paying the annual maintenance fee and, where applicable, the quarantine fee.
Following deletion, the domain becomes available for registration on a "first come, first served" basis.
The deletion of .name domain names is processed automatically based on the availability of the RoTLD Registry servers.
Trends and General Information
The .name domain is a generic top-level domain (gTLD). The particularity of this domain type is that the TLD designation already implies a specific association — with .name, visitors know directly that they are on a name domain, often used by artists, families, or private individuals to represent their own name or a pseudonym. Because it is mostly a TLD for individuals, anyone on the Internet worldwide can purchase and register one — there are no significant restrictions or allocation guidelines.
Registered .name domains are managed by VeriSign, which also manages the .com and .net domains. .name domains have been available for purchase and registration since 1995.
Statistics
Since the .name domain is currently a fairly exotic top-level domain, there are no concrete usage figures. Nevertheless, many families, artists, or private individuals have already secured their .name domain. In February 2020, 120,801 domains were registered.
Update: În data de 31.01.2020, RoTLD a raportat un număr de 602,622 de domenii .ro înregistrate și 7,526 de domenii .com.ro.
